MANCHESTER- Jose Mourinho’s side extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 16 games after comfortably beating Watford 2-0 at Old Trafford.
Last time the sides met was in September and it finished 3-1 for Watford, but it was a very different story this time round. United started the game off strong, bossing possession and creating many chances.
After dominating the first half, it took United 30 minutes to break the deadlock, when Juan Mata got on the end of a brilliant piece of play. Martial played the ball across the box and Mata slotted the ball into the net to give the Red Devils a 1-0 halftime lead.
Watford chances were few and far between all game, Mauro Zarate had an overhead kick saved by David De Gea and Mbaye Niang showed some promising signs with his pace down the right wing beating Daley Blind many times.
Manchester United extended their lead to 2 goals on the hour mark when out of favour Anthony Martial got on the scoresheet. A fast break saw Ibrahimovic find Martial in the box when he cut onto his right foot and found the bottom left corner. That goal was Martial’s 3rd in his last 5 starts.
A quiet day for the referee with only one yellow card being dished out in the late stages of the match to Antonio Valencia for a late tackle.
Ander Herrera was a stand out player for the hosts completing 7 tackles and dictating the pace of the game.
The final whistle came and United claimed an impressive 2-0 win to see them keep piling the pressure on the top 4.
Watford’s next game is at home against West Ham on February 25, meanwhile United host Saint-Etienne in the Europa League this Thursday.
