BARCELONA- Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona to a comeback win today as the Argentine scored twice and Barcelona defeated Valencia 4-2 at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona made 5 changes to the team that lost last weekend including Neymar returning to the lineup, meanwhile Valencia made 1 change from last weekend seeing Perez replace Zaza.
The La Liga champions’ started the game off well. Suarez, Messi and Rafinha all with good chances early on.
Valencia had a chance of their own when Ter Stegen saved Soler’s shot keeping it 0-0.
The visitors took a shock lead in the 30th minute when Mangala headed home the corner, Barcelona looked like they were up for another tough night.
Only five minutes after going behind, Barcelona equalized the game. A quick throw-in from Neymar saw Suarez one-on-one with Diego Alves and the Uruguayan placed the ball into the bottom corner.
Barcelona took the lead when Mangala picked up his second yellow card for pulling Suarez’s shirt to give Barcelona a penalty. Lionel Messi converted putting his penalty down the middle of the net.
A goals galore first half saw Valencia tie it up just a minute after Barcelona took the lead! Barcelona player Munir, who is on loan at Valencia, tapped in Gaya’s pass to give his club a potential nightmare.
At halftime the score was 2-2, but Valencia would be up against it in the second half after having a man sent off.
Barcelona started the second half off well, Mascherano’s pass found Messi, who cut onto his right and smashed the ball into the near post to give Barcelona a 3-2 lead.
The champions’ dominated the whole second half but missed many chances. Suarez had a good chance and Neymar hit the post from a free kick.
Barcelona would eventually seal the win in the 88th minute when former Valencia player Andre Gomes tapped in Neymar’s pass to register his first goal for Barcelona.
Barcelona keep the pressure on Real Madrid winning 4-2 today, they’re next game will be April 2 away to Granada. Lionel Messi will be suspended for the trip. Valencia will host Deportivo on April 2 as they look to avoid relegation.
