TORONTO- Toronto FC will be looking for revenge on the New England Revolution who defeated them 3-0 just three weeks ago at the Gilette Stadium in Foxborough.
The Reds go into Friday’s game coming off a 1-1 tie away to Montreal in the Canadian Championship but their last MLS game was that 3-0 loss to the Revs.
Team news sees Michael Bradley suspended because of yellow card accumulation. Tosaint Ricketts and Nick Hagglund remain unavailable for Greg Vanney.
This is Toronto’s biggest test with squad depth this season after Vanney fielded an almost full team on Wednesday night and will look to prioritize the second leg next week also.
For New England, only Xavier Kouassi is out injured, so Jay Heaps will have his full squad to choose from and also haven’t played since last weekend’s 2-1 home loss to high-flying Chicago.
Key players for Toronto will definitely be Victor Vazquez and Sebastian Giovinco after the duo played less than half the game in Montreal on Wednesday. The creativity and quick-thinking from Vazquez and the presence of Giovinco up front will cause the Revs problems.
Lee Nguyen and Diego Fagundez will be key players for the Revs as they both have shown their quality this season. Fagundez put on a show last game against Toronto scoring a beautiful goal also. Both are fast creative midfielders with a good eye for goal.
The last meeting between the two sides north of the border finished 4-1 for TFC last season and the Reds will be wanting a repeat of that as they look to remain in first place going into the Gold Cup break.
Kickoff is 8:00pm EST and the game will be televised across the TSN network in Canada. You can catch the game on MLS Live in the United States.
