A test of squad depth for TFC and Dallas as both teams struggle with defensive woes

DALLAS- FC Dallas host league leaders Toronto FC tonight in a mouth-watering game between two of the league’s best sides.

Dallas go into tonight’s game 4th in the Western Conference with 25 points, while Toronto go into the game top of the whole MLS with 35 points.

The Reds’ won the Canadian Championship on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win against rivals Montreal. While Dallas won 3-1 on Tuesday in the US Open Cup against Colorado.

Dallas are 4-3-1 at the Toyota Stadium and have never lost to Toronto at home which is a good omen for last year’s Supporter’s Shield champions’.

Toronto have only lost two games this season, both came on the road at Columbus and New England.

Team news for Dallas sees them without Kellyn Acosta and Matt Hedges, who are with the US squad for the Gold Cup, and Walker Zimmerman is out injured. Mauro Diaz returns to the squad.

Toronto will be without Raheem Edwards, Jonathan Osorio, Tosaint Ricketts and Justin Morrow. All are away for Gold Cup. Steven Beitashour had surgery on Wednesday night after colliding with Fisher on Tuesday night.

Max Urruti and Mauro Diaz will be key players for Dallas tonight, Urruti is the team’s top scorer this year while Diaz gets the team ticking in the midfield and creates the majority of the chances for Dallas, he can also get a goal or two.

Key players all around the field for Toronto but if you have to pick just two it has to be Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco. The duo up front spark the team into life with not only their goals but the way they press the opposition’s defence game in game out.

Kickoff is at 7:00pm EST and will be televised on TSN4 as the Reds look to give Canada a nice 150th birthday present by staying top of the MLS for yet another week.

FC Dallas: Gonzalez; Grana, Hume, Figueroa, Hollingshead; Ulloa, Gruezo; Barrios, Diaz, Akindele; Urruti.

Toronto FC: Bono; Zavaleta, Moor, Hernandez, Mavinga; Cooper, Bradley, Vazquez, Morgan; Giovinco, Altidore.
