What’s at stake?
RB Salzburg and Marseille are fighting for a spot in the UEFA Europa League final. Salzburg last reached a UEFA final in 1994 and lost 2-0 to Inter Milan in the UEFA Cup. Marseille lost in the UEFA Cup final against Valencia in 2004. Both sides haven’t reached a UEFA final since.
Who’s in better form?
Marseille tied 1-1 away to Angers on the weekend with some rotation as they are searching for Champions League football for next season. Salzburg picked up a 2-0 win away to Polten on Sunday. Marseille’s away record in the Europa League this year has been poor, with just one win, three ties, and four losses. Salzburg are down 2-0 but can be full of confidence because of Marseille’s away record, but they also boast an impressive home record, unbeaten in the last 10 UEFA games with seven wins and three ties, scoring 20 goals and conceding just three.
Head to head?
Before this season, the sides had never met in a competitive match. The teams were in the same group, Salzburg won at home 1-0 and got a 0-0 tie away in Marseille. But, last week Marseille picked up a 2-0 win to take the advantage to Austria.
Steven Mandanda and Hiroki Sakai are questionable going into Thursday’s game, while Salzburg haven’t reported any injury news.
When, where, and how can you watch?
Kick-off is at 3:05 p.m. on Thursday afternoon at Red Bull Arena in Salzburg and the game will be televised on beIN Sports.
