Marseille and Atletico just one game from European glory

What’s at stake?

Marseille and Atletico meet in Lyon in the UEFA Europa League Final. Atletico won the trophy in 2010 and 2012 and this will be their fifth final in nine years. Marseille’s record in UEFA finals is two wins and three losses while Atletico’s is six wins and six losses.

Who’s in better form?

Marseille have just one win in nine games away from the Stade Velodrome in Europe this season while Atletico have just two losses in 14 European games this year. The Spanish side won 1-0 on the weekend away to Getafe and haven’t conceded in four games. Marseille tied 3-3 against Guingamp. Florian Thuavin heads into the final with six goals in five domestic games.

Head to head?

The two sides have met just twice before in the UEFA Champions League in the 2008 group stage. The game in France finished 0-0 and Atletico won the home game 2-1.

Team news?

Kostas Mitroglou and Rolando are doubtful for Marseille while Dimitri Payet is set to start after missing out in the tie to Guingamp with a small injury. Jose Gimenez is doubtful for the Rojiblancos, but did travel with the squad to Lyon.

Kick-off is at 2:45 p.m. on Wed. May 16. at the Stade de Lyon in France. The game will be televised on TSN 1/3/4/5 and beIN Sports in Canada.
