Dortmund and Bayern meet in Bundesliga title showdown

Borussia Dortmund’s amazing season comes down to the biggest game of the year when they head to title challengers Bayern Munich on Saturday.

The champions are second, two points behind Borussia Dortmund after they dropped points away to Freiburg in a 1-1 draw last weekend.

Dortmund took advantage of Bayern’s dropped points by picking up a 2-0 win at home to Wolfsburg thanks to a late brace from Paco Alcacer.

It will be a huge task for Dortmund to come out with something, considering the hosts have scored 17 goals in their last three home games.

The German champions were pushed to the final whistle on Wednesday when they advanced to the DFB Pokal semifinals after a 5-4 win over Heidenheim.

Lucien Favre’s team have won three consecutive games while Nico Kovac’s side are unbeaten in seven league games.

The earlier meeting between the sides was a thriller that ending 3-2 for Borussia Dortmund thanks to a Marco Reus brace and an Alcacer winner. Last time they met at the Allianz Arena it finished 6-0 for the hosts last season.

Robert Lewandowski comes into the game having scored eight goals in four meetings against his former club.

Bayern are looking to win a seventh straight Bundesliga title while the Black and Yellows are trying to win their first title since 2012 when they won it consecutive seasons under Jurgen Klopp.

Alphonso Davies got a knock before the international break and remains out, joining Corentin Tolisso and Arjen Robben on the injury table. David Alaba and Manuel Neuer missed the Freiburg game with injuries and are doubtful.

Achraf Hakimi is out with an injury with Christian Pulisic, Lukas Piszczek, and Max Philipp. Abdou Diallo was forced off against Wolfsburg and will miss out, but Marco Reus will return after rejoining the club after becoming a father last weekend.

Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at the Allianz Arena. The game will be televised in Canada on Sportsnet World.
