Manchester United face another defeat, embarrassed by Everton

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – Everton made it three consecutive wins at home as they thrashed Manchester United 4-0 at Goodison Park with two goals in each half on Sunday.

The loss is the first time since 1981 that they have lost five consecutive away games in all competitions.

Marco Silva’s team have now defeated Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United at home in their last three games at Goodison Park and also drew 0-0 with Liverpool, keeping clean sheets in all four matches.

Theo Walcott, who came on for Richarlison early in the second half, got the fourth goal in the 64th minute when he was one-on-one with David de Gea and placed it past the Spanish goalkeeper into the bottom right corner.

The English forward’s goal made it Everton’s biggest ever victory over the Red Devils; previously it was 3-0 back in April 2015.

Richarlison got his 13th goal of the season and opened the scoring for the Toffees in the 13th minute; Lucas Digne’s throw in found Dominic Calvert-Lewin who flicked the ball onto the Brazilian who acrobatically put the ball past De Gea.

Everton dominated with six corners in the opening 15 minutes compared to United’s zero.

Gylfi Sigurdsson doubled the lead 18 minutes later when United had men forward but a counter attack from the Icelandic international saw him fend off Nemanja Matic and find the back of the net from about 35 yards.

This was the midfielder’s 13th goal of the season also as the Blues led 2-0 heading into the break, limiting Man United to zero shots on target.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made two changes at the break with Phil Jones and Fred being replaced by Scott McTominay and Ashley Young.

It didn’t take long for Everton to add to their lead in the second half when De Gea punched the ball out to Digne who sweetly hit it into the bottom left corner getting his fourth goal of the season.

United didn’t register a shot on target until the 86th minute when Anthony Martial’s shot went right down the throat of Jordan Pickford.

Everton finished the game with eight shots on target, converting half of them.

The Red Devils have lost six of their last eight game and remain sixth in the league, three behind Tottenham and could fall further behind Chelsea and Arsenal depending on their results and host Manchester City on Wednesday.

Everton are back up to seventh with 49 points and are level with Watford and now travel to Crystal Palace.
