Ajax are looking to reach their first Champions League final since 1996 on Wednesday as they host Tottenham in the second leg of the semifinal.

The Dutch side won the tournament a year earlier in 1995 against AC Milan and have failed to make an impact on Europe’s top stage since then.

They appeared in the Europa League final in 2017 as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United.

Erik Ten Hag’s side is unbeaten in 10 games and have won six in a row after being crowned champions of the Dutch Cup with a 4-0 win over Willem II on Sunday.

They come into Wednesday having scored six goals in their last two games at home.

Spurs have lost their last three games after a 1-0 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday after Heung-min Son and Juan Foyth were both sent off. They have also lost their last five games away from home.

Ajax have a slight lead heading into the game after Donny Van de Beek’s lone goal early into the first leg.

The last time Spurs traveled to Amsterdam was in 1981 when they were 3-1 winners. Ajax last hosted an English team in 2012 when they defeated Manchester City 3-1 in the group stage.

Spurs will be familiar to Dutch soil having played away to PSV in the group stage earlier this season when they drew 2-2.

Team news

Hassan Bande and Carel Eiting are sidelined for the hosts who have no injury concerns. Noussair Mazraoui was doubtful in the first leg but has recovered and should play.

Mauricio Pochettino will be without Harry Kane, Harry Winks, and Erik Lamela, while Serge Aurier and Jan Vertonghen are doubtful. Son will return after missing the first leg with a suspension.

Kickoff is at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The game will be streamed in Canada on DAZN.

The winner will meet Liverpool in the final in Madrid on June 1.
