Vancouver host high-flying Portland after first road win of season

The Portland Timbers continue their road trip just north of the border as they meet Cascadia rivals Vancouver on Friday night.

Giovanni Savarese’s team are ninth in the West having won their last three outings after a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake.

After this game, Portland (3-5-1) will have just two more games away from home before returning to Providence Park.

Vancouver (2-5-3) are on nine points, sitting 11th, and won their last game 3-2 away to the Colorado Rapids.

The Whitecaps won both meetings between the sides last season, most recently a 2-1 win. The sides share four wins each in the last eight games.

Team news

Yordy Reyna remains out injured after missing the Colorado game as Fredy Montero is likely to start again in his place. Jasser Khemiri and Victor Giro are also sidelined.

The Timbers will be without Marvin Loria and goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh, who has been out since the start of the season.

Kickoff is at 10 p.m. on Friday night at BC Place. The game will be televised in Canada one TSN 1, and in the United States on FOX 12 Plus.
