Canada will take on Mexico on Saturday at BMO Field in Toronto before they leave for France on Sunday.

Saturday’s game will be their first home game since Sept. 2, 2018 when they defeated Brazil 1-0 at TD Place in Ottawa.

Kenneth Heiner-Møller will have one final look at his squad in a game scenario after kicking off camp earlier this week with his final squad due on May 24.

The last time they faced Mexico was just more than two years ago and are 20-1-2 against their North American rivals, with the one defeat coming over 15 years ago.

The Mexicans failed to qualify for this year’s World Cup for the first time in 12 years and will be playing to gain experience with a more youthful squad.

The big news for the Reds is that veterans Diana Matheson and Erin McLeod were both ruled out of this summer’s showpiece tournament with injuries. The duo have featured in every tournament since 2003.

Youngster Jordyn Huitema just signed for Paris Saint-German on Friday ahead of the Mexico game. She has been playing for Vancouver Whitecaps Girls Elite side since 2015.

Christine Sinclair comes into the game with 180 goals in her international career; she’s just four goals away from tying American forward Abby Wambach’s record.

Heiner-Møller is confident with his sides ability and went on to say how great it will be to feel support from the home crowd before heading to Europe.

“I think as we’re progressing now, every single minute we’re spending on the pitch is important,” head coach Heiner-Møller said. “It’s going to be great to have a home match, a send-off match against Mexico.  Hopefully we’ll have a good match, a great performance, and a good crowd.”

According to reports, BMO Field is expected to have a crowd of 20,000 for the game.

Canada will kick off the World Cup in June 10 against Cameroon in Montpellier before facing New Zealand on June 15 in Grenoble. They’ll wrap up the group stage against the Netherlands on June 20 in Reims.

Saturday’s game will start at 1 p.m. ET. in Toronto and will be televised in Canada on TSN 2.
