Nigeria are looking to reach the round of 16 of the World Cup on Monday as they meet the United States, who will be desperate for a win.

The Africans opened up their tournament with a convincing 4-0 win over Qatar in the opening game with two first half goals from Maxwell Effiom and Henry Offia. Tom Dele-Bashiru and Allu Salawudeen sealed the win in the second half.

A point would be good enough to see them reach the next round as a best third for sure but a win would definitely seal their place in the last 16.

USA were impressive in their first game, but fell 2-1 against a stubborn Ukraine side. Despite early possession and chances, it was the European side who scored first as Serhiy Buletsa opened the scoring. Brandon Servania got the USA back in the game but an early second half goal from Denys Popov gave Ukraine the win.

USA know they wont be out with a loss because of the best third rule, but a win would be huge for them as they face Qatar in the final game and could finish on six points.

The sides have met just once in this competition back in 1989 when Nigeria won 2-1 in the semifinals before losing in the final.

Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. ET. on Monday afternoon at Stadion Bielsko-Bala. The game will be televised in Canada on TSN 4.
